It is important to define your goals before your start your journey. Even landscaping needs a proper beginning to have a fulfilling outcome. Start by deciding how you want to use the space. Many homeowners use the wonderful arid climate to their advantage and use the outdoors as an extension of their living space. Others want a peaceful retreat that is completely separate but compliments the home.
Going Native
Arid climates can be a challenge, unless you go wit the flow. One of the best ways to stay on budget and create a beautiful space is to use the wide range of indigenous plants available. Often, people see the most common and believe that’s all that is obtainable. The truth is, even in dryer, warmer climates, you have choices. The arid climates offer beautiful and bright floras, luxurious shrubbery, and an almost endless array of trees. Before you begin your project, spend some time investigating your choices. There are many non native plants wonderfully well suited for arid climates, but ones native to the area are a great place to start and should not be passed over for consideration. A local nursery is an invaluable help, as well as certified landscape professionals. They will be able to help in types and recommend locations for your selections. By using plants native to the area, you will save on many un-thought of factors, suck as a considerable amount of water, time and effort.
Drought Tolerant
Considerations
When choosing what vegetation to include in your landscape, it is important to choose those that are drought tolerant or require low water usage. Many think that drought tolerant equals dull, but nothing can be further from the truth. There are many exciting and colorful plants that are also drought tolerant. Some beautiful flowering options are the Indian Mallow, Mulga, White Ball Acacia, and Guajillo. The Arizona Department of Water Resources publishes comprehensive lists of native drought tolerant and low water use plants, trees, and shrubs. The lists are custom to region and are very helpful in planning landscaping of dry terrains.
Architectural Elements
There are many design possibilities and architectural elements you can include in your space. Decks can not only add usable space for relaxing or gatherings, but also add beauty and design. Rocks are also overlooked as design elements but can be used in countless ways to add depth, texture and interest to a property. Both real and artificial rocks can be creatively used in walls, and features such as waterfalls. Additional design elements can be considered when planning a space that is an extension of the indoors, such as an outdoor living room. all you need is enough water and make sure to pick the trees that look green instead of the ones that have no leafs on them and you can make it look like an oasis
