We at 10BestTucson.com have a commitment to homeowners, as well as to the communities we serve in certifying the top trade businesses in Tucson. Our commitment is to elevate service in all labor sectors while also making known the rewarding experience that a career in trade offers. In our previous article, we uncovered troubling trends in these industries; the inability to grow in market share while maintaining impeccable service levels with a drying up labor pool of qualified trade employees. While the trend is disturbing, it also opens up a huge opportunity for the community in creating a supporting role in developing local area schools in offering trade apprenticeships. The end goal is to offer the public better service via excellently trained trades’ people, while providing opportunities for new professionals to be trained properly. It also affords the opportunity to provide information to those considering a high paying, rewarding career that will never be outsourced to other countries.
There is no end to the continuing need of honest and capable trades’ people. Our commitment extends beyond providing a list of extremely qualified professionals today by actively coordinating with various training schools that will benefit from collaborating with us to provide professionals for tomorrow. Working with local businesses, we have a pool of resources ready and willing to create and teach a curriculum that meets the current requirements in receiving gainful employment in the learned trade. The benefit for the schools that participate is the ability to offer additional classes that the college did not offer before. The overhead the schools incur are minimal since they are already paying for unused class space and the infrastructure is already there. Business leaders and school directors are showing interest and enthusiasm in helping us make it happen.
Here is how it works. The community generates interest in the need and benefit of being a trade employee. Public service announcements with celebrity endorsements help. Classrooms would then be implemented with the curriculum satisfying the needs and requirements to work for one of the 10BestTucson.com businesses. Later, after basic classes are complete, students receive credits by working hand in hand with journeymen from these businesses. Both students and business owners determine the best fit of a potential apprentice with a particular company. The graduating student receives a full time job working for one of the best companies in Tucson.
Who is going to pay for this? The entities that will benefit the most will incur time and or costs, the community, schools, businesses and students.
Who will benefit? Everyone. The community, (Local, State and Federal governments) offering grants benefit by creating gainful employment, generating taxes and funneling more dollars into the economy. Businesses by investing time creating the curriculum with the schools needed for hiring into that industry; schools by investing in these programs for potential students and finally students themselves by spending time and tuition to set the foundation for a rewarding career in trades.

Schools have caught the fire and have found need to begin offering programs that will train interested individuals in gaining certification in a trade. There are plenty of grants and programs available to get the ball rolling for all the above. We urge the leaders in our community to be inspired and participate in the process.
